The Playoffs May Be Lost But That Doesn’t Mean They Can’t End Strong

I don’t see Cleveland making the playoffs this year.  It’s just too big of a hole to try to climb out of but if they stay away from last and also keep away from 4th, it would be good.  Three games have passed and the Indians won 2/3 over the Royals and now begin a four-game series with the slumping Baltimore Orioles.  After this series, back home to face off with another four-game series with the Royals.  The only reason for that would be because earlier in the season, Cleveland and Kansas City had a rain out earlier in the year and it’s going to be a doubleheader for one day.

Cliff Lee I think will win 25 games if he has four more starts for the rest of the season.  He hasn’t exactly lost in the second half of the season and it’s getting closer to saying why he should get the Cy Young this year.

Carmona could be returning back to form and could be the pitcher I think and probably many other Tribe fans believe.  That 19-win season was very impressive and I think he can win at least two more games to bump up his total to ten wins making him the second pitcher in the rotation to have that many victories.

Reyes won’t be pitching Wednesday but we see what Scott Lewis brings to the mound.  Never seen him pitch before so all I can say is make a strong impression and maybe he could take somebody’s spot in the rotation for the rest of the year.  I think it would probably be Sowers that gets voted off as he has some flashes of doing well but mostly doesn’t seem to be able to get it together and be a strong pitcher.  I don’t see him making the rotation for Spring Training.

After that, it will be time for Minnesota and that’s not going to be easy.  They may be slumping but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a cake-walk.  This team along with the White Sox have beaten the Tribe senseless all season long it seems.  Of course, the last series saw the Indians take 2/3 from the White Sox but that’s besides the point.

If they can finish above .500, it would be great considering that this team had been in the dumps and embarassed themselves early in the season.  2009 needs to be a year of redemption.  There is no getting around it.  They must win the division and go all the way.  From this point forward, it’s going to be either World Series win or bust.
